Birdwatching

For those interested in ornithology there is the RSPB reserve at Ynys Hir, which is only a 20 minute drive away, and well worth the trip. Many woodland birds such as finches, tits and siskin can be seen close up as well as Little Egrets, Herons, Lapwings, Canada Geese and Cormorants on the estuary. For viewing Red Kites the best place has to be Nant Yr Arian, a 40 minute drive to the south, where every day at 3.00pm the birds are fed and you can witness the spectacular site of 30-40 of them circling overhead! There are several other locations in the area such as the RSPB reserve at Mawddach Woodlands which we can also recommend.

We also have a pair of bats that we see most days just after dusk!
