BARMOUTH
Further up the coast is the more traditional and very popular seaside resort of Barmouth. A very picturesque resort, Barmouth has miles of unbroken sands, a bustling town with plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants and is an ideal resort for all the family.
TYWYN
4 miles from Aberdyfi sits the charming seaside resort of Tywyn. Most famous for the fabulous Talyllyn railway servicing all stations to the old slate quarry at Abergnolwyn Nant Gwernol. This is the worlds first and therefore oldest preserved steam railway. Tywyn is very different from its neighbours, no pretty harbour like Aberdyfi and no history like Machynlleth but it does boast a fantastic sandy blue flag beach, a pretty promenade perfect for strolling along and a busy little town.
DOLGELLAU
Dolgellau is a small market town situated at the foot of the Cadair Idris range or mountains. It’s a pretty little town with charming shops, little tea rooms and cobbled streets. It is also host to the annual folk and rock festival “Sesiwn Fawr” which takes place in July every year around Eldon Square. Dolgellau is also home to the Dolgellau golf club which is a family owned club set against a background of panoramic views of the Cadair Idris range.
The area is host to a number of excellent visitor attractions, some of the more popular ones are given below:
CENTRE FOR ALTERNATIVE TECHNOLOGY
Well worth a visit, the centre for alternative technology is Europe’s leading eco-centre. The visit starts with a ride up the mountain on the 180ft water-powered cliff railway. Once at the top there are seven acres of interactive displays to see and learn about, along with delightful organic gardens to wander round. Plenty to do for all the family.
